Hughie Blues, in conjunction with the NZChefs Association, is thrilled to announce that the annual Kiwi Kids Can Cook competition is on again this year at the Bay of Islands P & I Show in November.

The competition is aimed at getting primary school kids into the kitchen and encouraging a love of cooking. Youngsters who are interested in competing should choose something that they really love to cook and eat. They should practice making the dishes for their family and friends and come along and have fun!

The Kiwi Kids Can Cook competition is open to all children from Year 1 to Year 8 who attend a school in the Northland Region. To enter, children will need to provide a brief description as to why they like cooking, along with the recipes for two dishes they love to make. Creativity counts and entrants are encouraged to provide photos, drawings, a DVD, booklet, videos or YouTube links – anything that supports their application.

All entries must be received by 5:00pm 6th of November 2016. They will be judged by a panel of hospitality representatives and they will choose winning entrants to go forward into the “Regional Cook Off”.

All entrants will be contacted by the head judge and the finalists will be given further information about the competition day, to be held at the Bay of Islands P and I Show – Saturday 12th November 2016 in the “Savour the Source” Marquee, Main Entrance, Waimate North Showgrounds.

Each entrant who makes it through will represent their school and will compete against other entrants live on stage, cooking one of their dishes. If they win that round they will compete that afternoon where they will cook their second dish and will be competing for the prestigious “Kiwi Kids Can Cook” Trophy, which the school gets to hold for 1 year.

The winner will be crowned Northland’s “Kiwi Kids Can Cook” champion and will win a very exciting grand prize for them and their school as well as going on to compete in the National Kiwi Kids Can Cook Finals in Auckland, July 2017.
